To keep your diet from aging you prematurely, stay away from these foods:

  • Margarine – Lots of foods contain fat, but margarine contains the kind that gives other fats a bad name. The problem in margarine lies in its trans fat content, which is an enemy to hydration. Margarine deters proper skin hydration, which can in turn lead to dry, wrinkled skin.
  • Energy drinks – People on the go often love their energy drinks to sustain them through busy days. Energy drinks, however, are very high in sugar and acid. These ingredients can damage teeth and make them prone to stains. Energy drinks are also high in caffeine and sodium, which can cause serious dehydration, especially if you use the drinks as a substitute for water. Dehydration can add extra years to your looks.
  • Processed meat – Sizzling strips of bacon, slices of ham, and sausage links are inviting foods. However good they taste, though, processed meats contain a lot of preservatives that may allow for free radicals in the body. Free radicals can lead to oxidation of the body cells and DNA. Cell oxidation has been linked to cancer and other problematic health conditions.
  • High fructose corn syrup – Excessive intake of sugar is already detrimental to youthful looks, but high fructose corn syrup takes the damage a notch higher. HFCS is often regarded as the archenemy of healthy skin. It can deplete collagen and elastin, leading to saggy skin.
  • Salty food – Are you a heavy salter? Foods that are high in sodium result in water retention that makes the skin look tired and puffy. They can also trigger dehydration and accelerate aging.

There are other food items that contribute to faster aging but salt, sugar, caffeine, and trans fat top the list. To preserve your youth and beauty, steer clear of damaging foods.
